Summit of Fete

WHEREVER YOU ARE in the Trinidad & Tobago Diaspora, thank your lucky firetrucking stars you’re not in Port of Spain today. The Summit of the Americas starts tomorrow and the big shots start arriving today, with Barack Obama being the biggest shot of them all, of course.
And you won’t be able to move a muscle in town until Barack and the Beast ride out again.
But more of this in tomorrow’s TGIF. For now, just be glad you’re freezing your ass off in Canada, England, Atlanta or boiling it Down Under in the fading Australian summer.
Of course it would be nice to see the Great Man in person, if only just the once – but would you give up four days’ of work for it? Hmmm. Wrong question to put to a Trini.
And maybe I have been out of Trinidad too long already. It could well be that the Summit might turn into an improved version of the Coup for everyone apart from its direct participants: a week of no work and endless party; and ANR Robinson won’t even have to take a bullet on our behalf to ensure all them Summit fete is the baddest.
