Even as we speak - or sit and do our crosswords or drink our cups of coffee - the West Indies Cricket Board is planning its next step in the destruction of West Indies cricket. The late Lloyd Best used to say, quoting Confucius, that, "When the wrong man does the right thing, the right thing becomes the wrong thing". There's no way out of this brown paper bag.
No Trinidadian can do anything but insist that Darren Ganga be appointed captain, as did Deryck Murray - who is up for reelection to TT cricket board president today, but with an opponent (so unlike the good old and long-long-long days of the Alloy Lequay cricket boards).
I, of course, disagree. Unless Chris Gayle comes back out and repeats very, very clearly, and also slowly, so as not to be able to say he was misquoted, that he does not want to be West Indies captain, he should be appointed; and Darren made vice-captain (making the perhaps unsafe assumption he can make the 15-man squad and then the team in the first place).
Even the West Indies Cricket Board, who cannot figure out which way is up even when they fall flat on their faces, should realise the formula most likely to reduce conflict will be Gayle as captain, Darren, vice.
But when the wrong man does the right thing, the right thing becomes the wrong thing.
What will we hear later today or tomorrow? Watch this space. Or rather, watch a space just like this, but tomorrow.

I'll be honest and say that I don't know how Ganga performed in the regional 4 day competitions. But if he is chosen for the West Indies based on a 20/20 tournament, then God help us all...

Be nice if Ganga could play for his spot - if not, it'd undermine him and wreak havoc on his mind - and cricket is so much a confidence game it would not serve him well.
